If you are more in the mood for canine glam, Crufts is today! Being British born and bred I always follow Crufts and am so disappointed that it is no longer available to watch on T.V.
You can blame Peta for that( don't get me started). Now you must pay for a live feed, or if you prefer you can watch some of the happenings on You Tube. I was especially enamored of the Portugese Water Dogs. I think the type being bred overseas is stunning,( my apologies to Bo Obama) maybe not as sound as American -bred dogs, and bear in mind, that I am basing my opinion on the state of the breed just from watching the entries of one major show.
The grooming is a nod to the historic origins of this facinating breed. While I see this groom clip in American dogs, it is becoming scarce and that is a pity as it really shows these dogs off.... Peta Uses Sacrilege to Gain Donations for their Own Coffers

Julie Ann Hough, of Dancing With The Stars fame and a rising star in country music lives in my neighborhood. I haven't met her yet, but I have seen her out and about, so perhaps that is why this season on DWTS I voted for her brother and his partner, contestant Joanna Krupa.

But,had I known Krupa was a Peta supporter I would have voted for everyone else....

Previously in another post back in May http://dogsdollarssense.blogspot.com/2009/05/end-to-pet-keeping.html I ventured that HSUS would soon attack the Vaticans' Quaker Parrots..It seems I wasn't too far off. (As you know, I have no problem condemning Peta and HSUS together since they obviously are bedfellows. It has been well documented that the present HSUS is comprised of many Peta people and their agenda is the same.)

If you are reading this blog it means you are a dog lover and please tell me how ANYONE can support Peta when they support EUTHANASIA! If you are going to rescue a dog then by GOD rescue it and don't kill it.

When I lived in D.C., Peta was in its' infancy and had influence only in the D.C. /Virginia area. My friend Pat, whom I have mentioned before, belonged to the Peta Army. It was not long before she was disillusioned...she felt that Peta was out to desensitize us to the point that pets were eliminated completely...then when all the pets were gone, they would start desensitizing us on our elderly and handicapped...euthanizing your Grandma seems unlikely, or does it?

This is why I fear Peta, HSUS the HSLF and groups like them...they have too much money and too much power... We all know money and power corrupts.

The real rescue heros are the local groups who never get your donations.

To get back to Joanna Krupa, this is what she had to say (about her sacreligous portrayal of an animal Savior) according to the NYTimes,
''I'm doing what the Catholic Church should be doing, working to stop senseless suffering of animals, the most defenseless of God's creation."

What was she thinking?????

Doesn't she realize that the Catholics practically INVENTED animal rescue...hasn't this girl ever heard of Saint Francis of Assisi?

The bottom line is this...

Peta expoited Joanna Krupa for her beauty the same way Peta exploits animals for cash.

Hot Topic, the ASPCA Failure of Oreo

Two weeks ago, I was mowing my little patch of yard when Marley, a Standard Poodle rescue I placed with my neighbor walked by with a woman I didn't know. Always happy to see Marley, a dog who had lived a feral life for 18 months before being captured, he is now quite happily domesticated and well-loved. The woman introduced heself as Lisa and said she was visiting Marley and his owner. The talk turned to dog rescue and she asked me what I thought of Peta and ASPCA. Well you know I gave her an earfull about Peta. I hesitated about ASPCA, this year I have been very concerned about their approach to animal welfare and so I have withheld sending them any funds....then Lisa told me that she is in the advertising/marketing industry and just landed a really fat advertising account with the ASPCA. She was worried about the 'karma' of such an account. I told her to trust her own judgement but in my state, they have been doing things that make them appear to be an appendage of Peta. For example, they raided a local puppy mill, gave it lots of publicity, got locals to donate to the welfare of those poor dogs, but THEN only allowed a tiny handful to be adopted by locals, claiming that we didn't have enough prospective homes and said they were taking the rest of the rescued pups to New York...let me tell you something folks, that sounds like a flat out LIE. Nashville is FULL of millionaires, more per capita than anywhere else in the U. S. and Nashvillians love their dogs. We have a whopping 75% dog ownership population, far more than the average U. S. city. So it does sound like the ASPCA lied . The rumor is that the dogs were taken somewhere in Manhatten and euthanized.
After reading the story of Oreo, the dog who was thrown from a roof, and had her broken body repaired only to be euthanized by the ASPCA, I have to really wonder if those rumors about the puppy mill pups are true.

A Calling to Dog Loving Teachers and HSUS is at it Again

My neighbor Melanie is an Elementary School teacher and home for the summer. Like most teachers, Melanie is very glad to have the summer off and she looks forward to puttering in the garden,doing some home improvements, and catching up on her reading.
But Melanie wanted to do more this summer,something charitable that she could contribute without taking her away from home....and she found the perfect summer charity work in fostering for a local rescue...which got me to thinking,if every teacher across the country who is home for the summer, took in just one foster, what a huge difference it could make for those rescue organizations!
And so I throw out this challenge to teachers across America, take in a foster today!
Just think, you could be fostering an adorable Chin like Kuma pictured above.

Thus, we urge dog owners everywhere to read this report and be aware that what’s happening in Avon Lake may – and probably will – happen to you someday.In the Avon Lake draft ordinance, all dogs are by definition declared “vicious,” simply for acting like dogs. Normal and even desirable canine behavior would entrap a dog of any breed under this doomsday category. Even chasing a chipmunk or barking at a stranger would cause a dog to be declared vicious, under the terms of the latest draft ordinance.The entrapping language is very deliberate, and reflects one of the current tactics being exploited by radical animal rights groups, such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).HSUS has nothing to do with local humane societies, despite its misleading name. Instead, HSUS is the political arm of animal rights extremist groups. It seeks the gradual elimination of all animal ownership in America, which it sees as exploitation and slavery.Relying on an emotional campaign and the fear of “pit bulls” that has been carefully cultivated in the media, HSUS supporters are advancing so-called dangerous dog ordinances in many towns, cities, counties and states all across America. Nor to they want you to think too hard about a very simple truth: probably 99-percent of all Americans have never even seen a dog fight or even heard of one where they live, and have never seen a drug gang on its home turf.The HSUS tactic, however, is to exploit emotion and fear to make people feel threatened by a problem that simply doesn’t exist. It’s a canine version of the swine flu pandemic scare, which has millions of people living in terror of a disease that has actually killed fewer people than the average January head cold.
To get around the unconstitutional nature of breed bans, the Avon Lake ordinance attempts to define a vicious dog by behavior. Unfortunately, the definition is so brad that every dog in America falls under its net.The draft ordinance defines a vicious dogs as any dog that has "approached in either a menacing fashion or an apparent attitude of attack, or has attempted to bite or endanger any person, cat, other dog, or animal (domestic or non-domestic)." Under that definition, a dog could be declared vicious if it:· Chases a chipmunk or squirrel.· Points a robin.· Barks at a burglar breaking through a window.· Acts threatened if a stranger approaches its kennel.· Defends its owner from physical attack by a mugger or rapist.· Chases the neighbor’s cat out of the flower garden.· Defends itself when attacked by a stray dog.'

...so folks, tonite as you lay down to go to sleep, think for a moment what the world would be like without dogs,because if we don't stop Peta and her sister HSUS from entrenching their way into the public consciousness, our world will, one day, be dogless.

Horse Thieves, Obama and Animal Extremists

I once stole a horse.
My senior year in high school I was concerned about a horse living on abandoned property. The home had been abandoned so long, vandals had destroyed it. I began to go by every day, no one else ever came by to check on the horse and he was in poor condition. There was no local humane association and local laws had not yet been passed that could bring in the authorities. I decided the old gelding needed a new home....
I enlisted the help of the class president and the football team captain. We borrowed a horse trailer and the guys brought wire clippers. I brought the halter and lead rope. I haltered the horse while the guys snipped the barbed wire. Just before dawn,we loaded the horse and hauled him to his new home, a family who had offered a beautiful small barn next to their home with lots of pasture to graze and run on and people to watch over him every day.
The old horse settled into his new home and the three of us felt we did the right thing as we watched him gain weight and his coat bloom.
Then we got caught....
Many months later, my father informs me he had received a phone call from the principal of a high school across town. It seems, he told my dad, that I had been involved with stealing his horse. Rumors had circulated at his high school implicating me. I confessed that I had but I insisted that I only got involved because the horse was so neglected. My father,knowing my great compassion for animals, drove me to the principals' house and had me confess to him as well. I pointed out the horse was in bad condition, and that it had been months before the owner was aware that his horse was missing. He could have been tangled in the barbed wire fence and left to die for all that principal knew. Animals must be looked after I insisted, and this one was now well looked after in his new home.
My father, ever the diplomat, suggested that since the horse was in fine condition, was well fed, and had been vetted, that the matter should be dropped because if charges were placed it would become publicly known that the horse was badly neglected by the high school principal. In addition, the football team captain and the class president did not need criminal charges against them as it could badly damage their fine reputations. The principal agreed...
A few years later I was living in Washington D. C. and my friend Pat was crawling on her belly cutting fences to release lab animals for the Peta army. Pat severed her association with Peta when one night, after breaking into a lab and freeing animals, a large commercial type truck pulled up into the field, supposedly to carry the animals to safety. But, she told me, it was a euthanasia clinic on wheels...
Most of us who have worked in the pet rescue world know that Peta's purpose is not to find a home for that cute Beagle being experimented on. And we also know that Peta preys on the compassion of animal lovers for funds. Back in the 1990's, HSUS made no bones ( pun intended) about being an appendage of Peta. They are as similar as the Russian Prime Minister and the Russian President,but what I did not know until recently reading the blog,' The Endangered Owner', (see my list of faves)was that HSLF was an appendage of HSUS.
When Barack Obama ran for office, I was thrilled at his humaneness. I supported his positions in regard to animal welfare. But now I worry. I recently learned that his campaign accepted funds from HSLF...The above photo is from their website. And is originally from Jana Kohl's book, 'A Rare Breed of Love'.
I don't want to see Obama become a puppet of puppy killers. And don't forget that Peta's Pet Person of the Year is his good friend Oprah.
When I liberated that old gelding, I enlisted the help of two admired classmates, the class PRESIDENT and the popular football team captain. Since I was the goth/hippie chick in school I wasn't exactly hanging out with these guys but I knew if they helped me it would be easier for adults to accept what I did...and I was right.
It seems that Peta/ HSUS/HSLF has the same idea.... Not only does HSLF support Obama but apparently they also support his appointment to the Secretary of Agriculture position as well, is that coincidence? I worry about the new associations between our government and Peta/HSUS.
It appears to me that Peta/HSUS have used our own humaneness against us....again.
